Dear Congressman Smith:
In the name of 90,000,000 voiceless Ethiopians, we would like to thank you for standing by the side of the imprisoned, tortured, disappeared and murdered Ethiopians. We deeply appreciate the holding of a public hearing on June 20, 2013. We believe the hearing enlightened US policy makers about the atrocities committed on the Ethiopian people by the dictatorial and ethnocentric regime that seized power for the last 21 years. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for your role in passing HR2003 along with the late Congressman Donald Payne.
As a dedicated human rights defender, you travelled to Ethiopia and witnessed, that the Meles regime not only violated its own constitution but also deprived the people of Ethiopia to exercise their God given right. Even after the death of Mr. Meles, the human right violation continues at an alarming rate and with a level one can’t imagine. The regime in Ethiopia is a terrorist regime; A terrorist and non accountable regime that terrorizes its own people cannot be a long lasting ally to fight terrorism and protect lasting US interest. The interest of the United States will only be protected by a democratically elected government not by a dictatorial and terrorist regime.
We would like to bring to your attention that the people of Ethiopia have reached the point of no return. They are left with no hope and option. If the present level of atrocities and terror continues by this dictatorial regime, we are afraid the situation will be out of control. It is, therefore, high time for the United States act immediately to avoid regional instability and human catastrophe like that of Syria even Ruanda.
Once again, we thank you for being the voice for the voiceless and for your unwavering stance for justice, democracy and human rights.
God Bless you!
